Functional Health Coaching in Renton

You sleep eight hours and wake up like you didn’t. The bloat shows up by mid-afternoon. You are doing the things that are supposed to work, the clean eating, the walks, the early bedtime, and the scale won’t move or your energy still craters at 2pm. Somewhere along the way a doctor told you your labs are “normal” and you are fine. You don’t feel fine.

I’m Tyler Greer. I run Shape & Strength Fitness out of Renton, and this page is for people who feel run down and stuck and have already tried the obvious fixes. My job with functional health coaching is to figure out why your body is doing what it is doing, then hand you a plan you can actually follow. No diagnosing. No chasing one symptom at a time. We look at the whole picture and start with whatever is driving the most.

Why “eat less, move more” stopped working for you

When someone comes to me tired all the time, the problem is rarely willpower. Usually it is some mix of stress load, sleep quality, blood sugar swings, gut function, and how well your body is recovering. Push harder on a body that is already run down and you dig the hole deeper. That is the piece most plans miss.

Two patterns come up again and again. One is wired-and-tired, where you are exhausted but can’t shut your brain off at night. The other is the slow grind of stress that quietly parks weight around your middle no matter how clean you eat. If either one sounds like you, I have written about how it works in plain language: how your stress-response system gets stuck in the wrong gear and why cortisol makes weight so stubborn. Those posts explain the why. The coaching is where we do something about it.

The approach: Four Doctors and functional labs

I’m a Master CHEK Practitioner, one of fewer than two hundred worldwide, and I’m certified in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. In plain terms, that means I use two tools together.

The first is the CHEK Four Doctors framework. Simple idea, a lot of depth. Your health rests on four things: how you move, how you eat, how you sleep, and how you handle stress. Most people have one or two of those quietly out of balance, and it drags everything else down. We find which one is costing you the most and we start there.

The second is functional lab work through FDN. These are not the standard panels your doctor runs to rule out disease. They look at how your body is functioning, like your daily cortisol rhythm and your gut markers and how you are managing stress and fuel. I read them as a coach, not a doctor. No diagnosing, no treating. I use what they show to build a smarter plan and to check whether we are actually moving the needle.

A quick honest note. I coach. I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, and I will never tell you to drop a doctor or a medication. If something needs a physician, I will say so and point you there. What I do is find the patterns and give you a corrective plan you can live with.

What working together looks like

  1. A free discovery callWe talk through what is going on, what you have already tried, and whether I’m the right fit. No pressure, no pitch you have to sit through.
  2. Assessment and a starting pointWe map your Four Doctors and, when it makes sense, run functional labs. You get a clear read on what is driving your symptoms and where we begin.
  3. Phase 1: RebuildA focused block of coaching with a plan built around your life. We adjust nutrition, sleep, stress, and movement to what your body needs right now.
  4. Phase 2: SustainOnce you are steady, we shift into maintenance so the results hold. You stay supported without living in a rigid protocol forever.

The problems I hear most

If a few of these are yours, you are in the right place.

  • Tired even after a full night’s sleep
  • Wired at night, dragging by day
  • Bloating, gas, or gut discomfort
  • Brain fog and trouble focusing
  • Weight that won’t budge despite effort
  • The 2pm energy crash
  • Stress that never really switches off
  • A “perfect” diet that quit working

Each of these usually has a root under it, not just a symptom to muscle through. Worth a read if they ring true: why you are still tired after a full night’s sleep, what is actually behind brain fog, and how your gut and your mood and focus are wired together. When your old approach stops working, it often comes down to how your body wants to be fed, which is different from the plan you found online.

Renton, the Eastside, and coaching from home

The studio is at 2525 Aberdeen Ave NE in Renton, right off I-405. If you are coming from the Eastside, from Bellevue, Newcastle, Mercer Island, Kent, or Tukwila, it is usually a ten to twenty minute drive depending on where you start and the time of day. You are welcome to train in person here, and my colleague Katie Milne handles a lot of the hands-on movement and strength work at the studio.

Most of the functional health coaching runs remotely, and that is on purpose. This work is built on conversation, your lab results, your food and sleep patterns, and a plan we adjust over time. None of that needs you in a room with me. I coach clients across the Eastside and well beyond it from home. If you would rather come in, come in. If you would rather do it from your kitchen table, that works just as well.

A word on cost

I’ll keep this simple so there are no surprises. The first block of coaching is Phase 1, “Rebuild,” where we do the real work. After that, staying supported runs $275 a month as an alumni member, or $175 per session if you would rather come as needed. A full re-assessment down the road is $300. We will go over exactly what fits you on the call, and you will never get talked into more than you need.

Common questions

Do I have to come to Renton, or can we do this online?
Either works. Most of my functional health clients work with me remotely from across the Eastside and beyond, since the coaching is built on your labs, your patterns, and regular check-ins. If you would rather train in person, the studio is at 2525 Aberdeen Ave NE in Renton, a short drive from most of the Eastside.
Is this medical care? Can you diagnose or treat my condition?
No. I’m a coach, not a doctor. I do not diagnose, treat, or tell you to stop working with your physician. I use the CHEK Four Doctors framework and functional lab work to find the patterns behind how you feel, then build a corrective plan around nutrition, sleep, stress, and movement. If something needs a doctor, I will tell you.
What are the functional labs, and are they included?
They are panels that look at how your body is functioning day to day, things like your cortisol rhythm and gut markers, rather than the disease-screening panels your doctor runs. Whether we run them depends on your situation, and we decide together on the discovery call. The lab costs are separate from coaching.
I have tried a lot of things already. Why would this be different?
Because we start with why, not with another diet or workout. If clean eating and good sleep habits have not fixed your fatigue or your weight, something underneath is driving it. We find that first, then build the plan around it instead of guessing.
What happens on the free discovery call?
We talk. You tell me what is going on and what you have tried, I ask questions, and I tell you honestly whether I can help and what working together would look like. No cost, no obligation, no sitting through a sales pitch.
